The Weston Historical Museum will host a “once-in-a-
August 27, 2011. lifetime opportunity” dinner and tour
on Saturday,
 Participants will board a motor coach in
Weston and travel to the Harry S. Truman Library and
Museum to enjoy a buffet dinner and an exclusive tour
of the special exhibit, Steamboats to Steam Engines:  
George Caleb Bingham’s Missouri, 1819-1879.

The group will see artifacts that the Truman Library
borrowed from the Weston Historical Museum in April for
the popular art and artifact exhibit that began March 10,
2011 and ends September 8, 2011.  

Clay Bauske, the Truman Library and Museum Curator
and a Trustee of the Weston Historical Museum, will take
participants on an insider’s tour.  The event is an
experience that will never be available again.  

The Truman Library contacted the Weston Museum in
2010 to request items that would add to their special
exhibit.  Carl Felling, President; Carolyn Larsen, Curator
and Ann Saugstad, Director of the Weston Museum
committed to support the loan.  They recognized the
importance of sharing the history of Weston with visitors
at the Presidential Library.   

Weston Historical Museum is one of many organizations
to lend items for the exhibit.  Others include:  The
Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum-Washington
University, St. Louis, Missouri Historical Society, St.
Louis, National Archives at Kansas City, Jackson County
Historical Society, Saint Louis Art Museum-Eliza
McMillan Trust, The White House Historical Association
(White House Collection), The Kansas City Museum and
Union Station Kansas City, Kansas City, MO, The State
Historical Society of Missouri, Columbia, The Nelson-
Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, Missouri and private

The motor coaches will leave Weston at 3 P.M. and be
back in Weston by 10 P.M. Participants will enjoy an
elite buffet dinner served in the Library Atrium which
opens to the presidential library grounds.  Reservations
are limited and it will be a popular event so interested
people must secure paid reservations before July 27.  
Refunds are available until August 1.  The cost for
museum members is 75.00 per person and 90.00 for a
non member.  There is an additional 10.00 per person to
access the limited bar.  

Marsha West, the committee chairperson for the event,
recommends that non members join the museum to get
the discount.  Call the museum at 816-386-2977 to
request a form to sign up.  Forms are also available at
the Weston Historical Museum, the Weston Chamber and
the Bank of Weston.
